What personal information we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, the visitor’s IP address and the browser user agent to help detect spam. When you ‘like’ a comment we collect your IP address to prevent abuse and spam.

An anonymous string, created from your email address (this is also called a hash) can be sent to the Gravatar service if you use it. You can find its privacy policy page here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your response is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible in the context of your response.

If you are a registered user and upload images to the site, you should avoid uploading images containing EXIF GPS location data. Visitors to the website can download the images from the website and view the location data.

When you leave a comment on our site, you can indicate whether your name, your email address and website may be stored in a cookie. We do this for your convenience so that you do not have to enter this information again for a new comment. These cookies are valid for one year.

When you visit our login page, we store a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal information and is deleted as soon as you close your browser.

As soon as you log in, we will store some cookies in connection with your login information and screen display options. Login cookies are valid for 2 days and cookies for screen display options are 1 year. If you select “Remember me”, your login will be saved for 2 weeks. As soon as you log out of your account, login cookies are removed.

When you have an account and change or publish a post, an additional cookie is stored by your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and only contains the post ID of the post you have edited. This cookie expired after a day.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on this site may contain embedded content (for example, videos, images, messages, etc). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly the same as if the visitor had visited this other website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with this embedded content, including interaction with embedded content if you have an account and are logged into that website.

Who we share your data with

We use Google Analytics to track visitors and collect statistics. The purpose of this service is to give us a clear picture of, among other things, the traffic flows, traffic sources and page views. You can find the privacy policy of Google Analytics here.

We also use Wordfence to guarantee you that you are safe while using our website. For security purposes this service logs the website traffic. This includes your country and IP address. You can find their privacy policy here.

Besides that we also use Google Adsense to monetize the site with advertisement banners. This service may track you to serve you relevant advertisements. You can find their privacy policy here.

How long we keep your data

When you leave a comment, that comment and the metadata of that comment are stored forever. In this way we can automatically recognize and approve follow-up responses instead of having to moderate them.

When you use our website we keep a log of your country and IP address. This is done to ensure safety. These logs are automatically deleted after 30 days.

When you get redirected (to the 404 page as example), we log this so we can optimize our site and make sure you won’t get redirected again because of a nonexistent page. This data is kept for 30 days and then deleted.

E-mail addresses of people who signed up for our newsletter are kept forever until they unsubscribe. We will never share nor sell this information.

For users who register on our site (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an export file of your personal information we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us.

You can also request that we delete all personal data we have about you. This does not contain any information that we are required to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments are monitored through Akismet, an automated spam detection service. You can find their privacy policy here.
